Sam Neill has returned to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this time as a character in Thor Love and Thunder. The actor played a fake version of Anthony Hopkins’ Odin in Thor: Ragnarok.
Taika Waititi, the director, was looking for ways to diversify the cast. In addition to Sam Neill, he was also seeking out actors like Cate Blanchett and Tessa Thompson. They got their chance because they were the best auditions.
Having a veteran actor reprise a role is an interesting move. But it may prove a difficult one. Fans of the character could be disappointed.
The film will also feature Chris Hemsworth, who plays Thor. As well as Jeff Goldblum, who will play Grandmaster. Hemsworth has appeared in Star Trek (2009), and Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron.

The MCU has also expanded its pantheon of gods. In Moon Knight, we saw the Egyptian pantheon, and in Ragnarok, we saw the Celestials, who create all life in the universe. They are a major threat to Earth, but they are just a small part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
So while Thor has always been driven by love (Odin, Friga, Loki), his romance with Jane isn’t the only driving force. Other MCU characters are devoted to him, too.
